The lure of hard + fast Facilitator Trainings

We have a problem in the Spiritual + Wellness World.

It is that of the existence of the hard and fast Facilitator Trainings.

Now, to be clear I am not talking about CPD trainings here, these are naturally shorter because they are building on knowledge bases that already exist.

But the reality is we need to have a conversation about the fact that:

You cannot train to become an Embodiment Facilitator in a month,

You cannot train to become a Breathwork Facilitator over a long weekend,

You cannot train to hold space with psychedelics over a few months.

You cannot become a Shaman through an online, self led course.

And yet this is seen as the norm within the field of Wellness + Spirituality.

That to be able to hold life changing modalities and experiences and the training can be completed in the blink of ann eye and as easy as one, two, three.

I sit in an interesting seat with this, as I don’t believe that the way forward with this is to red tape and bring in a governing body into the field, for starters, they are only here to make money and do very little in the grand scheme of things.

But I do believe we need to be bringing in awareness to the fact that it is normalized that people with none or very little background or experience in a modality are able to sign up to trainings that have the ability to create life changing experiences in those who become their future clients.

I truly believe these hard and fast trainings are a disservice to the potential of both the future facilitator of the modality + the clients they intend to work with.

But also from a physical and emotional safety perspective.

Now you know I don’t use the term ‘safe space’ because there is no such thing as a safe space in facilitation especially within the realms of transformation, because change will always feel uncomfortable on the system + that discomfort more times than not will translate as ‘unsafe’ in the body.

But all of these modalities have the potential to (re)traumatize.

And to be able to create spaces where it is well held and you have the skill set to work with people if the above is the case requires time, practice and deep understanding of the modality and the process it creates within someone’s system.

It require a level of embodiment within the facilitator to be able to hold this work skillfully and in integrity.

And I have to ask the questions, why are we rushing these trainings?

What is the rush?

To make them more appealing?

To churn people through them?

Because they are easier to sell because there is less commitment?

To make it seem easy?

If you are a Woman walking the Path of Facilitation, part of the potential you hold for creating transformation in your clients is rooted in how much the modality has worked you.

We are in a time where cognitive space holding is a dying trend and embodied facilitation is coming to the forefront.

And the reality is that you will only be able to meet the teachings of these short trainings cognitively.

The modalities you hold require your full devotion, people want to see you living and breathing and evolving with them, so that it becomes a way of life for you and you are the embodiment of the possibilities and potential available to the clients you work with.

These short and sweet trainings are so alluring but what tends to happen is that you are left with a feeling of not being fully satiated by what you have learnt and I believe this is because you’ve not been fully guided through your own personal evolution with the teachings.

It’s been a quick smash and dash to get the certificate but it’s lacked the slow, deliberate and intentional drip of the teachings that allow you to transform from the inside out through working with the modality first and foremost.

I want more Women in facilitation to take their time with the teachings and trainings they are called to.

Because your Medicine lives in the Journey with the teachings, not the destination.
